The construction of plots B1 and B15 marks the start of the realisation of Cityplot in Buiksloterham, Amsterdam Noord. Studioninedots launched this innovative development strategy, and the design and construction of the first apartment buildings forms the ultimate test case for the architect and client de Alliantie. Studioninedots designed these new flexible forms of living as the social housing of the future, and above all, developed architectural translations of ambitions based on the circular economy in this area.
From end of 2016 onwards, residents of this Cityplot will occupy rental apartments that are compact and flexible. This flexibility derives from the principle of circularity, and occurs at two levels in plot B1:
individually, various interior layout options are offered for the dwellings, and per floor, there’s the possibility to combine apartments. This flexibility offers residents the opportunity to customise their home – even with the building’s modest floor area.
Smart solutions arose due to the ambition to utilise space as efficiently as possible. An innovative strategy sees the creation of more living space in the apartments through grouping functions such as the laundry and study into shared spaces. More living space benefits residents in the long term and sharing both indoor and outdoor spaces strengthens social cohesion.
