Gershwin is located at the very heart of Zuidas and is characterized by its towering office blocks. It covers roughly the same surface area as Amsterdam’s Artis Zoo or KNSM Island. Gershwin is the first mixed area in Zuidas, where people work and live alongside one another. The development of this residential area represents an important step forward in Zuidas’ ambition to become a vibrant and attractive urban centre.
In the future about 1,300 residential units will fill Gershwin. Living in Gershwin means living in style, with sweeping views of the newly widened De Boelegracht canal or over the city.
The thrusting residential and office towers and the variety of facilities on offer create a cosmopolitan atmosphere found nowhere else in Amsterdam.
At the Zuidas the streetscape is mostly defined by the large rigorous building blocks, creating a strict and formal atmosphere. Comfortable public spaces and squares are scarce.
Can we create a 13.000m2 building with a comfortable informal quality and an unique identity. An oasis as a point of reference, hidden within the building blocks surrounding?
